Padel Court Maintenance: A Guide for Clubs
A well-maintained court protects your investment and keeps players coming back, a court that plays inconsistently or looks neglected is one of the fastest ways to lose members to a newer club down the road. Here's what regular maintenance actually involves.
Artificial turf: brushing and sand redistribution
Most courts use synthetic turf infilled with silica sand, which compacts and migrates toward the middle of the court with play. Regular brushing redistributes the sand evenly and keeps the fibres standing upright, which is what gives the surface its grip and consistent ball bounce. Clubs with heavy daily traffic typically brush at least once a week, sometimes daily on the busiest courts.
Glass and mesh cleaning
Glass walls need regular cleaning to stay clear for spectators and to avoid a hazy, low-grip surface that changes how the ball rebounds. A build-up of dust, sand and hand marks isn't just cosmetic, it actually affects play once it accumulates. Metal mesh sections need periodic checks for rust or loose fittings.
Net, posts and lines
Check net tension and height regularly, a sagging net changes the game more than most players realise. Court lines painted or taped onto turf wear down with foot traffic and need repainting or replacing periodically to stay visible.
Lighting and structural checks
For courts with floodlights, check for dead bulbs and uneven coverage, poor lighting is a safety issue as much as a playability one. Periodically inspect the structural frame and glass panel seals for any movement or damage, especially after storms or extreme heat.
Deep cleaning the turf
Beyond routine brushing, turf benefits from a deeper clean every few months to remove embedded dirt, algae and debris that regular brushing won't fully clear, especially on outdoor courts exposed to rain and dust. This is where a dedicated court cleaning machine makes a real difference over manual brushing, it's faster, more thorough, and easier on staff time for clubs running multiple courts.
