1. POR-01, The Douro Vineyard Estate (Douro Valley)

12 guests · 6 bedrooms · 1 court

Set high above the Douro river with panoramic views over the terraced vineyards below, this estate comes with a billiard room, gym equipment, ping-pong table and its own wine cellar. No TV on site, and the road up is winding, so a suitable vehicle is recommended.

Best for: a group that wants wine country views and doesn't mind unplugging for a few days.

2. POR-02, The Cork Oak Estate (Comporta & Melides)

14 guests · 7 bedrooms · 1 court

A minimalist, contemporary build near Comporta and Melides, close to a golf course, built around a centuries-old cork oak that shades the main courtyard. Sleeping arrangements can be adjusted for up to 18 guests, with the property caretaker living on site. No air conditioning.

Best for: a design-conscious group that wants golf nearby and doesn't need AC in the shoulder season.

3. POR-03, The Alentejo Monastery Estate (Alentejo, Évora)

16 guests · 8 bedrooms · 1 court

A converted historic monastery at the centre of a 300-hectare working estate farmed with a holistic approach, with traditional hand-painted tilework inside and a glass-walled modern kitchen. Petanque and ping-pong alongside the padel court, plus a fountain courtyard. No TV on site.

Best for: the largest group on this list, or anyone after real Alentejo countryside with a genuine sense of history.
